Contemporary Conservation Ltd.

Working with some of the most intriguing artists and prestigious collections in today’s global art world, the team of seven internationally trained conservators at CC specializes exclusively in the conservation of contemporary paintings, sculptures and installations. As the integrity of a contemporary work of art extends beyond its physical principle, in its daily practice CC is continually negotiating the material behaviors and the concept of each work.

Contemporary Conservation Ltd. was founded in 2002 in New York by Christian Scheidemann, who had practiced modern and contemporary art conservation in Hamburg, Germany since 1980. In 2009 he was profiled in The New Yorker as “The Art Doctor,” amongst an array of articles in publications worldwide. Scheidemann has also lectured and published widely on material matters of contemporary art and how they inform, trouble or intersect with aesthetics, ethics and value.
